Welcome to The Anderson School of Dance

The Anderson School of Dance has been established for over 18 years starting with just 2 classes per week to now nearly 20 classes a week in Freestyle Dance, Adult Dance/Fitness, Street Crews (Junior & Senior!) and also Musical Theatre Singing Classes.

Freestyle Dance has evolved over the years from Disco Dancing in the 1970’s to the popular and dynamic dance style it is today. Freestyle is a modern, expressive & varied Dance style which can involve runs, spins, kicks and leaps as well as many other diverse steps and movements with lots of arm and hand actions. The music can be fast and rhythmic or slow and expressive, allowing individual dancers of all ages freedom to express within dance.

Fun Dance & Popularity

Over the years we have had many pupils come through our doors. Some have joined just for the fun side and danced as a ‘hobby’, others have gone onto College / University to study Dance. A large number of pupils have stayed here at the School and studied Teacher Training with Debbie herself, in the hope of becoming Dance Teachers themselves.

The Anderson School of Dance currently has classes at 3 more venues across Medway in addition to the ‘Flagship’ School at the Hook Meadow Hall in Walderslade, Chatham.

Debbie aims to provide a fun and friendly atmosphere where pupils of all ages can come along, dance and most of all, enjoy themselves. At The Anderson School of Dance we strive to get the best out of our current pupils and look forward to welcoming new members into the school.

We are not just a run-of-the-mill Dance School, we strive to get the best out of all our pupils and are just like one large family!

Musical Theatre

NEW for 2017!!!! We are very excited to say that we now have a Professional Musical Theatre Vocal Coach join our very talented team of Teachers and Assistants. If you would like to learn more about your voice and what it can do, whilst improving your vocal range, or just have fun singing in class and on stage, then why not come along to one of our Musical Theatre Singing Classes on a Thursday Evening at the Hook Meadow Hall in Walderslade.

Please note that photos and videos of all our latest shows and events are available on our Facebook and instagram pages.

Stage Shows & Medals

Over the past 18 years we have held numerous events and shows including …

  • 6 Monthly IDTA Exam Sessions – 100% pass rate
  • Medal Presentations – Presented by the Mayor of Medway or a Local Celebrity
  • Various Open Day Demo’s
  • Fancy Dress Workshops
  • Talent Shows
  • Christmas Lights Switch-On Performances
  • Performing at Can You Dance, Kent - 2015 & 2016
  • Dance Challenge UK - 2017

PLUS 6 Major Shows at The Central Theatre in Chatham & performing at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London (Home to The Phantom of the Opera) 3 TIMES in the past 4 YEARS!

Debbie is very proud of all her pupils and her Dance School and is very pleased to announce that we have raised 2 significant amounts over the past few years for 2 absolutely amazing Charities. First of all £3000 raised in 2008 for Help for Heroes and £3500 raised for Parkinsons UK in March 2012. We hope to do another Sponsored Dance for either the Epilepsy Society or Encephalitis UK very soon.

We encourage all pupils to participate in the IDTA medal tests, where they can achieve various medals and certificates. This enables the pupils to have something to work towards and gives them confidence within themselves. For 4 consecutive years since 2013 we are honoured to have 2 of our Senior Dancers nominated by an outside IDTA Examiner for the prestigious Freestyle Scholarships, held in Birmingham every May. Every year there has only been a handful of Schools from the South of England that have taken part (us being one of them!) so to have 2-4 pupils nominated for the 4th year running is extremely overwhelming. These pupils are in the top 75 out of over 5000 candidates. A fantastic achievement that’s for certain.
